Christmas on South Jackson Street

Christmas on South Jackson Street is an original holiday ballet created and directed by Laquangela Serita Lester, Founder and Owner of Symphony Q Academy of Dance.

Set in Montgomery, Alabama, the ballet follows a young girl who discovers a glowing star ornament on Christmas Eve and is swept into the stories of her neighborhood's past. Audiences journey through decades of history—from 1930s porchlight gatherings and music-filled parlors to the quiet courage of the 1955 bus boycott and the spiritual strength of Dr. King's parsonage.

Blending ballet, modern, gospel, and jazz dance, the production celebrates both African American and White American traditions, honoring the resilience and artistry of an entire community. The evening culminates in a luminous finale where dancers of all ages unite, reminding us that we are the light that carries the spirit of the season forward.
